To obtain a license to sell liquor by the drink in Davidson County (and “wine only” licenses), Business owners must first obtain a permit from the State of Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC). The ABC may be contacted by calling (615) 741-1602.
After securing the permit, the owner MUST bring the permit and the receipt from the ABC to the County Clerk’s office at 700 2nd Ave South, Suite 101, Nashville, TN 37210 and pay the liquor privilege tax. The tax is based on business activity and seating capacity.
***The permit is renewable annually and it is the responsibility of the business owner to do so each year.***
If the business changes ownership, the new owners must obtain new permits. “Wine only” licenses are also available. One may apply by mail by sending the appropriate documentation to:
