From October 2011 through March 12, 2012, John Arriola and the Davidson County Clerk’s office partnered with the Tennessee Department of Safety to offer free upgrades as the state prepared voters for a new law requiring photo ID at the polls. In the past six months the Clerk’s office provided 633 free photo upgrades. The office also offered special Saturday hours during early voting to accommodate this program.

“As with all of our processes, we have focused on customer service. We wanted to make adding a photo to your license as simple and convenient as possible,” Arriola said. The State had identified 8,481 registered voters in Davidson County who have a driver’s license without a photo.

Arriola entered a contract with the state to begin offering license duplicates and renewals in 2007. The county clerk’s office handles nearly 200 Driver license transactions a week and provides an alternative for those who would otherwise have to go to the state’s Driver Service Centers, which also handle regular photo IDs and road testing for driver’s licenses.

The Davidson County Clerk’s office offers a variety of services, including motor vehicles, business licenses, marriage licenses, hotel tax collection, notary registration, driver’s license renewals, passports and liquor by the drink licenses. In addition to the main office, there are five satellite offices for motor vehicle services. For more information, visit www.nashvilleclerk.com.

“We added passports to our lineup of services in 2007, since then it’s been growing, but this year was incredible,” said Arriola. “I think people are realizing how we’ve made the process simple and how we have focused on customer service. And this year’s numbers demonstrate the demand with an increase of 50% over last year.”

Passport services are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Davidson County Clerk’s main office. Visitors may apply for, change or renew a U.S. Passport conveniently, and as always No appointment is needed. The Davidson County Clerk’s office is one of the few area locations that offer full passport services, including photos.

As of June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to leave or enter the United States, including Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Passport cards range in price from $40 to $141.28 and passport books from $105 to $234.00, depending upon age and turnaround time.

The Davidson County Clerk’s office offers a variety of services, including motor vehicles, business licenses, marriage licenses, hotel tax collection, notary registration, driver’s license renewals, and passports. The main office is located at the Howard Office Building at Fulton Complex, 700 2nd Avenue South, open Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are five satellite offices for motor vehicle services in addition to the main office.

October 12, 2011 – Beginning October 17, Davidson County’s 8,481 registered voters who have a driver’s license without a photo will be able to add one for free at the County Clerk’s main office, 700 2nd Ave South.

County Clerk John Arriola has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Safety to begin the free upgrades later this month and continue them through March 12, as the state prepares for a new law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls.

“We want to do everything we can to help voters be prepared when they go to the polls”, Arriola said. “I feel good that we can offer this service to our customers at no cost.”

State law allows drivers who are 60 and older to remove their photos from their licenses during renewal periods. Â More than 126,000 registered voters statewide have chosen this option, and 8,481 of those are in Davidson County.

Arriola contracted with the state to offer license renewal and duplicates in 2007.  The County Clerk’s office handles nearly 200 of these transactions per week and provides an alternative for those who would otherwise have to go to the state’s Driver Service Centers, which also handle regular photo IDs and road testing for driver’s licenses.

The county clerk’s office will only be able to assist licensed drivers who need to add a photo. People seeking the free photo ID who do not currently have a license can go to a Driver Service Center.  In Davidson County there are two full service state driver service centers, one at 624 Hart Lane and the other at 6604 Centennial Blvd, and a state express ID center at 312 Eighth Ave North. Again, adding the photo is free, but only until March 12.

On Saturday, September 17, 2011, the Davidson County Clerk’s office assisted more than a hundred Nashville residents in obtaining their U.S. Passports.  This was the fourth annual National Passport Day for the Clerk’s office.  The staff helped customers by answering questions, filling out forms, and taking their photos in preparation for future travel plans.Â

“We’re planning a trip to London and Paris. We’ve never been anywhere like this so we’ve never had a passport before and this made it a lot easier.  We had no idea what to expect, how to fill out the paperwork. Everyone was super nice and helpful.” – Roger and Cheryl Horner.Â

The special weekend hours were convenient for many applicants who work during the week.  More than a twelve hundred applications are processed each year by the Clerk’s Office.  They began offering U.S. Passport services in 2008 as a part of a larger effort to provide greater service and opportunities for Nashville residents.  Recently added services include Tennessee birth certificates and Tennessee driver licenses.Â

John Arriola, Davidson County Clerk, announces plans to celebrate National Passport Day on Saturday, September 17, 2011, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the main branch office, located at the Howard Office Building at Fulton Complex, 700 2nd Avenue South.

This fourth annual event allows residents the opportunity to sign up for or renew a passport without an appointment. The Davidson County Clerk’s office is one of the few area locations that offer full passport services, including photos.

In addition, the office will provide services for certified birth certificate copies and drivers license renewals that day.

“We’ve seen great response from the public,” said Arriola. “The Davidson County Clerk’s office began passport services in September 2008, and our participation in the national event has been successful. We handled 100 of the 800 passports processed in the entire southeast during the inaugural National Passport Day, and expect a large turnout this year as well.”

As of June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to leave or enter the United States , including Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

Passport cards range in price from $40 to $141.28 and passport books from $105 to $234.00, depending upon age and turnaround time.
